Building a Wooden House or Workshop / Apotheke

If a stone house renovation is beyond your skills set or finances, then maybe a wooden house is for you.

We required an apotheke to house the tools that were required for the renovation. An apotheke is the Greek name given to a workshop or store.

The outbuilding that was part of our property was unusable and so it was immediately demolished, along with the outside toilet.

Our 72-year-old neighbour climbed above and helped us remove the corrugated iron roof, which we gifted her for the goat shed in return for her labour.....There began a wonderful relationship which has blossomed into us being a part of a very large Greek family here on Lefkada.

In this space we laid iron mesh and a concrete pad. We purchased a 20 sqm wooden apotheke (46mm thick with double glazed doors and windows) from Oikos Décor Lefkada.

Complete with plans and his exceptional DIY skills Maverick erected it in 5 days by himself.

We eventually decide to put a pan tile roof on it, in keeping with the main house; so, Mav strengthened the inside by inserting two A frames to accommodate this extra weight.

This whole structure was worm treated and then a varnish coating applied to protect the wood from UVA and moisture. We used a satin oak finish.

Each wooden structure can be customized to your own taste; we chose the deluxe model with double glazed door and windows. We made window boxes from old pallets. Maverick worked tirelessly to kit it out with workbenches, shelves, lighting and the electricity sockets required for his work.

It looks more like an Austrian chalet suitable for Heidi to live in....All Maverick needs now is a beer fridge!!!!

This was a catalyst for Maverick to offer his skills and experience (having previously owned a property renovation company in the UK) in helping those who are unable to DIY.
