Insects are a pest during the summer months. Brighten up any doorway with this bohemian rainbow door curtain made from recycled t shirts. For extra insect protection it can be hung in front of plain mosquito netting. Of course you can choose any design depending on the colours of your t shirts; black and white would look striking.
All you need to start is a curtain pole, old t shirts and the measurement of your door frame.
1. Cut off all seams of the t shirt so only the fabric remains. Cut one strip 2.5cm wide (1 inch). Test this strip by stretching it to see if it curls up to form a string. If it does not curl, cut the fabric the opposite way. (some very good quality t shirts do not stretch and curl)
2. Cut and stretch all the strips in this way to form lengths of fabric string.
3. Attach one length of fabric string to the curtain pole; Make a loop. Place it upside down behind the pole. Pass both loose ends over the pole and through the loop. Pull firm.
4. Add lengths of fabric string to the required door length measurement by simply tying a knot.
Repeat until the required width measurement of the door curtain is full. Trim the bottom ends to finish.
Note ; Its easier to work on the pole if it is sellotaped to the back of a chair or edge of table.
