Homemade Reusable Wax Food Wraps

Super easy to make and cheaper than buying them.

Why use wax wraps?
Wax wraps are an eco friendly way or storing foods in the fridge or store cupboard. A fantastic replacement for cling film, which cannot be recycled or aluminum foil which is a finite resource. (it cannot get replenished on its own and takes a lot of energy to extract from the earth).

You will need:
Wax - I used Soy wax which is an alternative to bees wax and is vegan. (You can purchase wax online)
Scissors or pinking shears.
Greaseproof paper.
Baking tray and oven.
Clean cotton fabric (recycle old shirts)

Method:
1. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and preheat oven to 100c degrees.

2. Cut out shapes of cotton fabric in various sizes, circles and squares.

3. Put the fabric on top of the greaseproof paper and sprinkle with wax flakes.

4. Place in the oven until the wax melts (a couple of minutes). If there are patches of dry fabric add extra wax and return to the oven, or use a brush to spread the wax more evenly.

5. Dry the waxed fabric by hanging or laying on grease proof paper to cool. (I used a washing airer). This only takes a few minutes; you will notice the fabric will harden.

You can wash your wax wraps by rinsing under cold water.
You can replenish the wraps after prolonged use by placing them back in a warm oven.

If you are wanting to give a set of wraps as a gift, roll them in greaseproof paper and tie with a button, string and a homemade label.
